Railay Has Won My Heart

Authour: Laura Hennings
Our visit to Railay was filled with adventure, laughter, and happiness. I had the pleasure of getting to know the local tattoo artists, rock climbing instructors, Poi fire performers, and singers. Beautiful people live here, and I fall more and more in love with the Thai people as the days go on. It was really hard to leave them, and I could tell they were sad I was leaving too. This country is truly “the land of smiles”. On our first full day we went kayaking through the breathtaking limestone cliffs. The path was very narrow and you either got good at steering the kayak or would catch a face of plants and branches. It was all a good time! It started pouring rain on the way back! Yet, we were all in good spirits and decided to ride out the stormy waves with laughter and smiles. The next day we went rock climbing and repelled off a large cliff. Rock climbing was quite the workout; however, it was way too much fun. In order to get to the cliffs we had to walk through a pitch black cave filled with rickity bamboo ladders. Our instructors were amazing though and helped us every bit of the way. The view from the cliffs was beautiful and majestic overlooking a beach, palm trees, and mountains.

The best part of Railay was reuniting with the six week tour. I literally cried tears of joy once we saw their boat pull around the corner. The quick two hour reunion consisted of hugs, kisses, drinks (ya FRIDAYS!!!), laughter, and sharing the good times. I cherish our LBW family so much. It’s beautiful how this trip has brought 40 amazing individuals in my life. We are currently in Kanchanaburi visiting the Tiger Temple, elephant trekking, and visiting the waterfalls. So far…so good :)
